We Welcome You to Explore 2-1-1

Greetings, As President of Michigan 2-1-1's Board of Directors, I welcome you to explore this website to learn how 2-1-1 offers you, your friends and loved ones, information and referral services that can help with life's often challenging questions.

What is Michigan 2-1-1?

“2-1-1 didn’t just give me help, they gave me hope.” Michigan 2-1-1 is a free, confidential service that connects you with local community-based organizations across the state offering thousands of different programs and services for people seeking answers. Last year more than half a million Michigan residents turned to 2-1-1 for health and human service information and referrals and the numbers continue to grow. If you need help for yourself, a neighbor or a loved one, call 2-1-1 or search the 2-1-1 website to find out where to get help. 2-1-1 has information on more than 30,000 different programs and services across the state.

How Does 2-1-1 Work?

We’re here and ready to help when you need us. Whether you are looking for medical help, foreclosure prevention programs, shelter or utility assistance, help with food or clothing, or any other challenge facing your family, a call to Michigan 2-1-1 may provide the answers you are looking for.

Who Does 2-1-1 Serve?

2-1-1 helps thousands of Michigan residents calling about community resources. But it also helps federal, state and local governments, community and faith-based nonprofits, corporations and employment and educational services.

Michigan 2-1-1 Partners

Although Michigan 2-1-1 is a fairly new idea – the unified system started in 2002 – the eight regional contact centers that provide 2-1-1 service across the state have a long and established history serving their communities. Each of the centers is nationally accredited and endorsed by Michigan-AIRS (Alliance of Information and Referrals Systems). These organizations and the managers that guide them daily have the necessary depth of experience combined with reputation for excellence and confidentially.

Michigan 2-1-1 Leadership

Michigan 2-1-1 is governed by a Board of Directors that oversees 2-1-1’s operations and development. It is a working board that actively engages in public policy work, promoting the passing of the Calling for Michigan 2-1-1 Act that would authorize federal funding for Michigan 2-1-1. Its members may serve up to three, two-year terms before rotating off the Board.

History of 2-1-1 in Michigan

It's hard to imagine a time before there was a unified 2-1-1 system in Michigan when information and referral services weren’t coordinated across the state and so easily accessed by phone or Internet search. Yet, in just the short period of time since 2000, the consolidation and growth of Michigan 2-1-1 has changed the way people and services come together – for the better.

Return on Investment

Whether you’re in need or in trouble, the value of Michigan’s 2-1-1 system may seem priceless. Looking at it in terms of dollars and cents, though, the benefits from 2-1-1 add up to an amazing “return on investment” every time an important connection is made.
