Programs that pay for or provide new or secondhand kettles, toasters, microwave ovens, blenders, toaster ovens and other kitchen appliances.

Programs that pay for or provide new or reconditioned heating systems. Furnaces are powered by wood, coal, oil, propane, natural gas or electricity and pump heated air throughout a home or other building using a system of ducts. Some systems heat water which circulates through radiators. Included are programs that provide grants or loans for furnace replacement.

Programs that pay for or provide new or reconditioned water heaters. Water heaters generally include a heating device and a tank for storing hot water, though some water heaters are tankless.

Programs that provide cash or tax rebates for homeowners who have made approved home improvements that will enable them to reduce energy consumption. Eligible improvements may include solar energy systems, heating and cooling systems, duct/air sealing, caulking/weather stripping, building insulation, windows and doors, and replacement of old appliances such as water heaters, heat pumps, refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines and clothes dryers with newer models that are energy efficient.

Programs that provide furniture for people who need it. Available items depend on what has been donated and is on hand at any given time. The collection may include but does not specialize in adapted furniture, baby furniture or other specific items.

Programs that supply coupons that can be exchanged in designated thrift shops or nonprofit organizations for furniture, appliances, bedding and other household items.

Programs that pay for or provide new or secondhand sheets, blankets, pillowcases, bedspreads, curtains, towels and other similar household essentials.

Programs that pay for or provide new or secondhand dishes, utensils, food storage containers and other cookware.

Programs that pay for or provide new or secondhand cribs, bassinets, strollers and other furniture that has been designed for infants/babies.

Programs that provide clothing for people who need it. Available items depend on what has been donated and is on hand at any given time. The collection may include but does not specialize in children’s clothes, work clothes, maternity clothes and shoes.

Programs that pay for or provide new or secondhand uniforms or other working clothes. Also included are programs such as “Dress for Success” that provide interview suits and other professional attire for low income individuals (frequently women) who need this type of wardrobe to secure and/or retain gainful employment.

Programs that pay for or provide new or secondhand coats, gloves, hats, scarves and other winter clothing.

Programs that supply coupons that can be exchanged in designated thrift shops or nonprofit organizations for clothing.

Organizations that offer new or secondhand furniture, appliances, clothing, toys and other material goods at lower than retail prices, and which often use the proceeds from sales to support other services to the community. Thrift shops accept direct donations from the public of new and reusable goods. Also included are other types of resale shops that sell secondhand but reusable musical instruments, salvaged building materials, office equipment, sports equipment, books, CDs and other material goods.

Programs that pay for or provide soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, combs, brushes, cotton swabs, deodorant, facial tissue, toilet paper and other personal hygiene/grooming supplies for homeless people and other individuals who need them.

Programs that pay for or provide cloth or disposable diapers.

Programs that pay for or provide new or secondhand clothing and layettes for infants and young children.

Programs that pay for or provide new or secondhand clothing for children and/or adolescents.

Programs that pay for or provide textbooks, notebooks, pens, pencils, calculators, book bags and other essential educational supplies required for classes at the elementary/secondary level or at a college or university.

Programs that accept new or secondhand clothing, repair the items if necessary, and keep the clothing for use in their own programs, donate it to shelters and other community-based organizations for distribution to the people they serve, or sell it to raise money for agency programs.

Programs that accept new or secondhand sofas, chairs, tables, beds, dressers, rugs and other necessary home furnishings, refurbish them if necessary, and keep them for use in their own programs, donate them to other community-based organizations for distribution to the people they serve, or sell them to raise money for agency programs.

Organizations that establish central points where people can bring personal and household goods, office equipment and supplies and other items they wish to donate.
